William McKendree Springer papers, ca. 1861-1909.

Correspondence, invitations, newspaper clippings bills and receipts and other papers of William McKendree Springer, an Illinois politician and lawyer. Also included are materials related to the court case the United States vs. seventy-two bales of cotton, which Springer represented the claimant Elizabeth Alexander (ca. 1870), and materials on the case State of Missouri vs. State of Illinois and the Sanitary District of Chicago (1900-1903). A majority of the correspondence relates to Springer's law practice and the newspaper clippings mostly relate to improvements on Cherokee lands (1895).
